Home Learning WB 05.01.21

04 Jan 2021

Welcome back,

I hope you all had a restful and relaxing Christmas holiday. See below for your home learning tasks this week.

Phonics and Literacy
In phonics this week we will be reviewing the set 1 sounds we have learnt so far. I have attached the set 1 flashcards below for you to print off and review with an adult. Get your grownup to test you to see how well you know the sounds. Your challenge is to remember as many of the sounds as you can!
Please choose a reading book from the Oxford Owl website to read this week with an adult (you will find guidance on how to navigate this website is attached in the 'Useful Help Documents' section of the Unicorn class page).
Follow the attached link to get to the Read, Write, Inc phonics teaching videos on youtube. You will have an email to let you know which speed sound set lesson your child should watch (again you will find guidance on how to find these videos attached in the 'Useful Help Documents' section).

Set 1 flashcards

In literacy we will be learning about winter and cold places. We will be reading a book called Here Comes Jack Frost ( the youtube link for the book https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igsDNgU0ed4). Watch the story and discuss with an adult all of the cold things you have seen in the book. Did you see ice? frost? icicles? snow? Can you sound out these words orally with an adult?
Once you have read the story I would like you to go on a winter walk, can you spot any signs of winter? When you get home please complete the literacy activity linked below. You will need to fill in your answers in pencil. If the weather is not very wintery then you could look at some winter pictures online with an adult.

Maths
In maths we will be carrying on our learning about 2D shape. Please review the shape flashcards attached and review these with an adult. You could then search around your home for items which are rectangles, triangles, squares or circles. Once you have completed this please watch the lesson on sorting 2D shapes which can be found by following the link below.

Wider Curriculum - Knowledge and Understanding of the World
We will be starting a topic all about winter and cold places in the world. For this learning we are going to identify things that we would see outside in the winter. Think about the colours of the season and create a drawing of things you have seen on your winter walk. Follow the link below to watch the lesson.
