Phonics, Literacy and Maths Home Learning WB 18.01.21

11 Jan 2021

Hi Unicorns,

This page has your home learning for literacy, phonics and maths this week. Please look through the work below and email me if you have any questions about any aspect of the learning. Please note that I will be teaching the literacy session on Thursday afternoon this week, please do not complete this work before this session. You will find the other areas of learning for the afternoon sessions this week in the 'Wider Curriculum Learning' article.

Thanks
Miss Connor

Phonics
L.O. To learn to read and write words using the new sounds this week.
Please watch the Read, Write, Inc videos on Youtube each day (please review the Useful Help Documents section of the unicorn area for a guide to use this). The videos are uploaded onto Youtube every day at 9:30. You should watch the speed sound lesson (either set 1 or set 2) then the accompanying spelling or word time video which will come on immediately after the speed sound video. Please follow the link here to find the RWI Ruth Miskin page.

The sounds for this week are as follows;

Monday 18th

Set 1 – o
Set 2 – ir
Tuesday 19th

Set 1 - c
Set 2 – ou
Wednesday 20th

Set 1 - k
Set 2 - oy
Thursday 21st

Set 1 - u
Set 2 – ay*
Friday 22nd

Set 1 - b
Set 2 - ee*

*Set 2 will restart again on Thursday. If you think your child needs to review the set 2 sounds again then they can review them by watching the videos again each day. I will upload some worksheets on Wednesday for children who were working on set 2.

Literacy (I will be introducing this activity on THURSDAY at 2:00pm)
L.O. To use my phonics knowledge to write a polar animal fact file.
In literacy this week we will be writing a fact file about an animal that lives in the polar regions. After we have completed the KUW work on Tuesday you will be able to name some animals that live in the Arctic and Antarctic and know some facts about them. I would like you to select one animal and create a fact file about it. You will write about what it looks like, where it lives and what it likes to eat. Then you will draw a picture of your animal trying hard to use the correct colours and features. You can use powerpoint which I will introduce and post on Tuesday to help you remember some of the animals and the facts about them. We will review these animals during this zoom session too.
Remember to try to use your phonics knowledge as much as you can, use the sound mat to help you if you forget any of the sounds. Try to do this work as best as you can independently. I would like to see you attempting to spell some words you don't know, it doesn't matter if they aren't quite right!

Maths
L.O. To further consolidate my knowledge of the composition of 5.
In maths we will continue to follow the White Rose maths home learning scheme. There are 5 sessions each week, I would advise you to complete one each day. There is a teaching video each day and an activity to accompany this video. Your child should be able to watch and take part with the video independently, they may need some support in completing the activity. Most of the activities are practical but some will need printing out. If you need any help with printing we can do this for you at school for you to collect.

This week the children will be completing the 'Alive in Five' theme and we will be working on week 2. Please follow the link below to find the week of work. The learning objectives for this week are to compare numbers to 5 and to understand the composition of numbers to 5.
