Phonics, Literacy and Maths Home Learning WB 01.03.21

26 Feb 2021

Hi Unicorns,

Welcome to your last week of home learning, hurrah!!!
Here is your phonics, literacy and maths learning for this week. Remember that we have a zoom session each morning at 9:40am, please note that there will not be a zoom on Wednesday morning as this clashes with the Arabian Nights performance. I will be teaching the literacy on Tuesday at 2pm this week. Please do not complete this work before the session.

We have an extra special week this week as it is WORLD BOOK DAY on Thursday, we have lots of other exciting things happening too. We will be watching an Arabian Nights performance on Wednesday morning, you will need to register for this if your child is home learning at the minute. We will also be having a special World Book Day assembly at 10:15am on Thursday, I will be sending the zoom link out for this via email. Children are invited to dress up as their favourite book characters. Finally we have an exciting competition happening, 'The Masked Reader'! Each day I will post a video on our teams page with a member of staff reading a well known book, children can watch the video and try to guess who is behind the mask! We will share our ideas and find who exactly is behind each mask on Friday during our sharing assembly.

Thanks
Miss Connor

Phonics
L.O. To learn to read and write words using the new sounds this week.
Please watch the Read, Write, Inc videos on Youtube each day (please review the Useful Help Documents section of the unicorn area for a guide to use this). The videos are uploaded onto Youtube every day at 9:30. You should watch the speed sound lesson (either set 1 or set 2) then the accompanying spelling or word time video which will come on immediately after the speed sound video. Please follow the link here to find the RWI Ruth Miskin page.
If your child is confident with all of the set 1 sounds then they can move onto the set 2 sounds lessons on the same Youtube page.

If your child has now completed set 2 phonics and is confident with these sounds then please move onto the 'Read and Hold a Sentence 1' videos where children will begin to put their phonics set 1 and 2 knowledge into practice with their writing. It might be useful to review some set 1 and 2 sounds from the flashcards before you try this activity. You can also watch the 'Red Words 1' videos too. There will be a new video each day and you can follow the same link as before to find these videos.

Literacy
L.O. To write sentences about farm animals using phonics knowledge.
Listen to the story Wake Up Time on Bumble Farm on our zoom session on Monday. Then look at these farm pictures on the powerpoint linked here. What can you see? Can you name any baby animals? Choose a couple of the pictures to write about, make sure you say your sentence first and count how many words there are on your fingers. Then use your phonics knowledge and sound cards if needed to help you write the sentences. Try to use finger spaces and a full stop at the end of each sentence.

Remember that we will have a guided reading zoom on Tuesday at 1:15pm for group A and another on Thursday at 1:15pm for group B.

Maths
L.O. To represent, sort and order numbers 9 and 10.
This week we will begin our learning on numbers 9 and 10. We will sort and represent these numbers, order them and begin to investigate the composition of these numbers. Please see the link below for the learning for this week.
Building 9 and 10

Optional Extra
The World Book Day website has lots of great resources, you can check it out here. They have a story corner where children can listen to well known stories, follow the link here for these.
