Home Learning WB 15.3.21

14 Mar 2021

Hi Unicorns,

See below for your home learning tasks this week. Please note that this work is only if you are isolating.

Phonics
Please watch the Read, Write, Inc videos on Youtube each day (please review the Useful Help Documents section of the unicorn area for a guide to use this). The videos are uploaded onto Youtube every day at 9:30. You should watch the speed sound lesson (either set 1 or set 2) then the accompanying spelling or word time video which will come on immediately after the speed sound video. Please follow the link here to find the RWI Ruth Miskin page.
If your child is confident with all of the set 1 sounds then they can move onto the set 2 sounds lessons on the same Youtube page.

If your child has now completed set 2 phonics and is confident with these sounds then please move onto the 'Read and Hold a Sentence 1' videos where children will begin to put their phonics set 1 and 2 knowledge into practice with their writing. It might be useful to review some set 1 and 2 sounds from the flashcards before you try this activity. You can also watch the 'Red Words 1' videos too. There will be a new video each day and you can follow the same link as before to find these videos.

Literacy

In literacy we will be writing about the lifecycle of a frog. We will be reading the story 'The Teeny Weeny Tadpole'. I have linked the youtube video of the story here. You can also watch this video of frogs in their habitats https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/frogs-in-their-habitat/z63ygwx. Once you have done this I would like you to write a couple of sentences about something you have learnt about frogs.E.g. The tadpole turns into a frog. The frog is in the pond. The frog lays its eggs in the water etc.
You will need to use your phonics sound card to help you to remember the sounds. Don't forget your finger spaces, capital letters and full stops.

Maths
In maths we will be carrying on our learning about 9 and 10. Please see the activites on the White Rose Maths website here. You should watch the video first and then complete the activity.

Wider Curriculum - Expressive Art and Design
Irises - Vincent van Gogh - Van Gogh Museum
We are going to be studying this painting by Van Gogh called Irises then we are going to do our own still life drawing of some flowers.
Look at this powerpoint attached here to learn some facts about Van Gogh first. Then you can go into your garden and draw some of the flowers or you could find some nice pictures of flowers online to copy.
Remember to sketch your picture first and make sure you are happy with how it looks then you can begin to paint or colour it in. Make sure you study the flowers closely and use the correct colours and shades. Try to make your picture look like the actual flowers if you can.
