Habitat Explorers!

26 Jan 2020

We've had a whale of a time learning all about living things and their habitats as part of our new Science topic this half term.

After much deliberation, we managed to come to a conclusion on our 'Where Is The Best Microhabitat In School?' investigation. Despite strong competition from 'hedge' and 'gazebo', the deserving winner was... 'under the trees'!

The children had a great time - despite the rain  - searching for living things and impressed us with their skills in map reading to locate the microhabitats in the school grounds. The investigation led to some interesting discussions about fair tests, with the potted plants under the shelter being ruled out of our investigation as they were not growing there naturally...

My personal favourite finding from the investigation, however, was the following:

"It depends which living things we are talking about though, because if we are talking about grown ups, the best habitat is the staffroom because there's lots of food and cups of tea."

I can't disagree! wink
