Home-School Work (w.c. 12/4/21)

11 Apr 2021

Please find below a selection of work for week commencing Monday 12th April if you are unable to be in school due to self-isolation or other Covid-19 related reasons:

** PLEASE NOTE - This is only work for children who are off school, which mirrors what we are completing in class. This is not the homework for the week **

Reading/Phonics

Use Oxford Owl to access reading books at your child's book band:

Oxford Owl e-Book Library   (You will need to register for a free account)

Continue to follow your child's current programme for Phonics learning:

Set 2 Lessons-  Read Write Inc - Features daily videos on a new sound.

Set 3 Sounds - Read Write Inc - Features daily videos on a new sound

Read Longer Words - Read Write Inc - The next step from Set 3, applying our knowledge of sounds to work out longer words.

Investigating Alternative Spellings - PhonicsPlay - Scroll down to Phase 5c and work through the 'Investigating Alternative Spellings' activities at your own pace. I'd recommend one activity per day e.g. a Phoneme Spotter one day, Word Sort the next day, Best Bet the next day. You can log in for free at the moment using the username and password on the PhonicsPlay homepage.

Phase 6 Spelling Rules - PhonicsPlay - These games allow practice of the more complex spelling rules for Year 2, and are the next step from the Alternative Spellings work. You can go through these games at your own pace.

English

This week, we are writing recounts. We are focusing on making sure our writing stays in the past tense, and that we can sequence it in the correct order.

Task 1 - LO: To spell words in the past tense
Complete one of these spelling sheets to revise how to add 'ed' to make past tense verbs and then use this sheet to practise spelling common irregular past tense spellings that don't follow the 'ed' rule.

Task 2 - LO: To use time conjunctions to sequence
Time conjunctions help us to make sure our writing is in the right order. Use this worksheet to practise choosing the correct time conjunctions. Remember to read the sentences back to make sure they make sense.

Task 3 - LO: To write a recount of my favourite day of the holidays
Create a piece of writing to tell us what happened on this day. Start from the very first moment you woke up and write about everything that happened until bedtime. Try to:

- Spell words with 'ed' correctly
- Look out for irregular past tense words that don't follow the rule
- Use time conjunctions to help you get it in order. This word mat might help you.

Wider Curriculum: PSHE

LO: To identify what makes a happy home

Watch this video and have a think about what makes YOU happy at home. Think about how this isn't always about material things like toys and gadgets - the things that make us happiest are often things like love, hugs and spending time with special people. Have a chat to your family too and find out what makes them happy. Use your ideas to create your own 'Recipe for a Happy Home'.
