Please find below a selection of work for week commencing Monday 7th June if you are unable to be in school due to self-isolation or other Covid-19 related reasons:

Use Oxford Owl to access reading books at your child's book band:

Continue to follow your child's current programme for Phonics learning:

Set 2 Lessons-  Read Write Inc - Features daily videos on a new sound.

Set 3 Sounds - Read Write Inc - Features daily videos on a new sound

Read Longer Words - Read Write Inc - The next step from Set 3, applying our knowledge of sounds to work out longer words.

Investigating Alternative Spellings - PhonicsPlay - Scroll down to Phase 5c and work through the 'Investigating Alternative Spellings' activities at your own pace. I'd recommend one activity per day e.g. a Phoneme Spotter one day, Word Sort the next day, Best Bet the next day. You can log in for free at the moment using the username and password on the PhonicsPlay homepage.

Phase 6 Spelling Rules - PhonicsPlay - These games allow practice of the more complex spelling rules for Year 2, and are the next step from the Alternative Spellings work. You can go through these games at your own pace. 



This week, we are starting work on our new class novel - Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl.

1. Use the front cover to predict what might happen in a story
Look at the different front covers of Fantastic Mr Fox. Write a short paragraph in your book to say what you think might happen in the story and why you think this (if you already know the story, you could imagine what else the story could have been about). When you’re done, read the blurb on the next page. Do you still think the same or has your prediction changed?

2. Understand what characters think of each other

Listen to Chapters 1 and 2 -  Mr Fox is always stealing his food from the farm! He probably thinks he’s pretty smart, but I bet the farmers think differently... Draw a line down the middle of your page to make a table. Write ‘Mr Fox’ at the top of one column and ‘The Farmers’ at the top of the other.  Sort the adjectives on page 4 of this activity booklet: which words show what Mr Fox thinks about himself and which do the farmers think of Mr Fox? There are some new words in here so please ask your grown-ups if you don’t understand any of the words 😊

3. See an event from different viewpoints
Draw a simple picture of Mr Fox in your book. Next to him, write down some speech bubbles containing what he might say about stealing the animals from the farm. Then do the same for the 3 farmers, thinking about how their view of it might be different and what their character voices might be like (e.g. how they speak, which words they use). Here’s an example if you’re stuck (it’s like we did for Diary of a Killer Cat).


This week in Maths, we are revising 3D shape. Watch the White Rose video to revise the key skills, then complete the activity.

Wider Curriculum: Geography

LO: To know where India is 

This half term, we are learning all about India in Geography. Using Google Maps or an atlas at home, see if you can complete this worksheet on the location of India. When you're done, do some research to see if you can find the flag and 5 fun facts about India.
