Home-School Work (w.c. 14/6/21)

13 Jun 2021

Please find below a selection of work for week commencing Monday 14th June if you are unable to be in school due to self-isolation or other Covid-19 related reasons:

** PLEASE NOTE - This is only work for children who are off school, which mirrors what we are completing in class. This is not the homework for the week - Homework can be found in the 'Homework' tab **

Use Oxford Owl to access reading books at your child's book band:

Oxford Owl e-Book Library   (You will need to register for a free account)

Continue to follow your child's current programme for Phonics learning:

Set 2 Lessons-  Read Write Inc - Features daily videos on a new sound.

Set 3 Sounds - Read Write Inc - Features daily videos on a new sound

Read Longer Words - Read Write Inc - The next step from Set 3, applying our knowledge of sounds to work out longer words.

Investigating Alternative Spellings - PhonicsPlay - Scroll down to Phase 5c and work through the 'Investigating Alternative Spellings' activities at your own pace. I'd recommend one activity per day e.g. a Phoneme Spotter one day, Word Sort the next day, Best Bet the next day. You can log in for free at the moment using the username and password on the PhonicsPlay homepage.

Phase 6 Spelling Rules - PhonicsPlay - These games allow practice of the more complex spelling rules for Year 2, and are the next step from the Alternative Spellings work. You can go through these games at your own pace.

This week, we are continuing our work on our new class novel - Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl.

1. Use our knowledge of the story to predict what will happen next
Read up to Chapters 10 and 11. Mr Fox has sent some delicious food from Boggis's chicken house back to Mrs Fox, but now he wants to dig ANOTHER tunnel! Where do you think they will go next, and what are they trying to find? Think about what we already know from earlier in the story about the 3 farmers and what they keep on their farms. Draw a picture of the place where they will end up. Add lots of labels to your picture, using the best adjectives you can think of to describe the things that the foxes will see. Remember to use a comma between more than one adjective.

2. Write the next part of the story
Write your own version of the next chapter, beginning with the foxes digging and ending with them taking something else delicious for their feast! It can be as long or as short as you like. Make sure you use lots of good descriptive language when they get to the place, so your reader knows what it looks like.

This week in Maths, we are revising 3D shape. Watch the White Rose video to revise the key skills, then complete the activity.

Task 1  - LO: To recognise 2D and 3D shapes
Video    Activity  (Shape Scavenger Hunt)

Task 2  - LO: To count edges on 3D shapes
Video    Worksheet

Task 3  - LO: To sort 3D shapes

Video    Worksheet

Wider Curriculum: Computing

LO: To create digital art using shape and stamp tools

This week, we are creating digital rangoli art to go with our India topic in geography. Have a look at the rangoli patterns below - notice how they all begin with a circle and then feature repeating patterns going around the circle. Using Pixilart website, create your own rangoli design. Start by using the circle tool to create a series of circles inside each other. Then, use the pencil, shape and line tools to add repeating patterns going around them. You could also use the stamp tool to add simple designs like hearts or flowers.
