English and Maths Home learning WC 1st March 2021

23 Feb 2021

Hello Pegasus!

Only one more week of home learning and then we can all be together again in the classroom. You have all been amazing and worked so hard throughout your time at home but we are very much looking forward to having you all back with us in school.

We will continue with our timetable for this week. Your morning zoom sessions at 9.40am will be a mixture of Maths and English again this week. These are outlined below.

As Thursday is world book day, we will have a school assembly zoom. This will be at 10:15am. We invite all children to dress up as a book character of their choice. Dont forget to take part in our 'Masked Reader' competition each day (On teams).

As always if you have any questions or need anything you can message us on Teams or ask your grown ups to email us.

This week we will complete our 'Measurement' topic which will focus on length and perimeter.

This week we are going to be focusing our learning on non-chronological reports.

Monday - taught session on Zoom at 9.40am

LO: To understand features of a non-chronological report.
During this lesson we will look at different features that can be found in a non-chronological report and look for examples in a report.

Activity – to read the field hockey report and write down your answers to the questions. Next we would like you to identify all the features in the report using the features poster.

Tuesday - independent session (11am ish)

LO: To identify features of a non-chronological report.
Today we would like you to have a go at ordering a report and identifying the features that we discussed in yesterday’s live lesson.
  1. Read the muddled report text and decide on the topic of the report.
  2. Write a title at the top of your piece of paper.
  3. Decide which paragraph is the introduction and either cut this out and stick it on your paper, or write it down, under a sub heading of your choice.
  4. Cut out and order (or write down in the order you want them) the other sections and decide on the theme or topic for each (these will be your sub-headings).
Think carefully about how you would like to lay them out and order them to create a non-chronological report.

Challenge: Highlight any technical language and create your own glossary at the end of your report.

Wednesday – taught session on zoom at 9.40am

LO: To write in the present tense and to write in the third person.

During the live lesson we will begin by recapping the features of a non-chronological report. We will then focus on writing in the present tense and third person. Finally, we will look further at sub headings.

Activity – read the Sports Reports below. Choose either Red or Green challenge.

In the first report, change the verbs to present tense.
Re-write the second report changing the whole thing so that it is written in third person.

Sports report - Red              Sports report - Green

Watch either of both of the following videos about sports. Which of these two sports would you most like to play? Why?

Thursday – independent session (11am ish)

LO: To write a book review.

As it is world book day today we would like you to read some or all of your favourite book (you can read more than one).

We would then like you to complete a reveiw on a book of your choice. You can use the template below to help you or you can create your own.

Friday - taught session on Zoom at 9.40am

LO: To write a non-chronological report.

Today we would like you to plan and write a report about a sport you know about and like. During the live zoom we will go through the features we have looked at earlier this week and model writing a report.

Choose your subheadings from the list below and decide what information you might include under each subheading. Remember to make your information clear and write in the third person and present tense.

You can use this features poster to help you.
