English

This week our english work will have a wellbeing focus. All resources for this week can be found here.

Monday
  • I can discuss and describe colours, thinking about how they make me feel.
  • I can think about what makes me feel good and why it makes me feel like that.
Activity:
  • Choose a Kite Outline (see resources).
  • Select and/or mix happy colours to paint segments of kite outline. Each segment may be several colours.  Explain what colours you have used and why you think they are happy colours.
  • While the paint is drying, discuss and write ideas for what makes you feel happy on bow shapes (see resources).
  • Fix your bows to a ‘ribbon’ and attach this to your kite when it is dry. This may need some adult help.

Tuesday
  • I can name emotions triggered by stories and music.
  • I can match music and story events to emotion words.
Activity:
  • Look at the Story Board and read each part of the story. Taking a box in turn, record the main emotion of the story box.
  • Hunt for music which could represent each emotion. This can be any piece from what you like to listen to, adverts, soundtracks to films or computer games.
  • Record the name of the piece (or words to identify it) in the right box.

Wednesday
  • I can make predictions and speculate about a character.
  • I can explore a character through role-play.
  • I can name emotions.
Activity:
  • Look at the crown image.
  • Choose two or three characters from the crowd.
  • Name the character, give them a backstory, describe what they are doing and feeling at this moment.
  • Then role-play being the characters in that crowd, what they are doing, saying and feeling.

Thursday
  • I can apply my design ideas with a planned intention.
  • I can follow spoken and written instructions.

Activity:

Planting Seeds
  • Choose which quick growing seeds you would like to grow(see resources). Look at the packets, read the information and discuss which you would like to plant and why.
  • Fill your paper cup with compost, add a few seeds following the instructions on the packet, and water gently. Covering the tops with plastic wrap and placing near a window will speed up germination.
  • As they work, talk about the plants you like, how you feel when you walk through a park or garden and how colour can affect our emotions.

Friday
  • I can write a story.
  • I can use descriptive language in my writing and speaking.
Activity:
  • Discuss ideas with a partner before independently choosing a place and labelling it on a map.
  • Then write a short story about the planting, using the question prompts on the board and Story Prompt (See resources).

Wider Curriculum

This week in our Jigsaw lesson, we will focus on understanding how medicines work in our bodies and how important it is to use them safely. We will continue to think about caring for our bodies and keeping it healthy.

Here is the powerpoint and task for this weeks lesson. Make sure you work on your 'Calm me' skills even from home!
