English and Maths Home Learning WC 18th January

15 Jan 2021

Hi Phoenix,

I hope you had a lovely weekend and are keeping yourselves as safe as possible.

We've got a jam packed week of sessions going on and I have outlined them below. If the session is taking place on Zoom, I have typed that next to the day so that you know whether it's a teaching session or not. When it is a teaching session, you need to log onto the main Year 6 Zoom link.

Don't forget to upload your work to Teams as often as you can so that I can give you quick feedback. I have absolutely loved seeing how hard you are all working despite us not being able to be together.

Take care and I will see you on Zoom.

Take care and stay safe,

Mrs Foster smiley

Maths - Decimals

This week we are continuing with decimals. You will be developing your learning from last week and by the end of the week you will be looking at displaying decimals as fractions. As well as the video links, flashback 4 and activities I have added a true or false question each day and some problem solving and reasoning activities if you would like some extra challenges. The problem solving and reasoning activities are meant to be for the whole unit so if you choose to do one please don't do too many in one go.

Problem Solving and Reasoning

English

I was super impressed with the quality of writing being produced last week following your live lessons with Mrs C! This week you have four more days with her wortking on 'The Secret of Black Rock'. The sessions will continue to be live at 9.45am but will be recorded for those of you unable to make that time. I can't wait to see what you produce this week! There are also some optional sessions of spelling, grammar and reading for pleasure if you want to challenge yourself further.

On Friday, I would like you to read chapter 7 of our class novel and have a go at some comprehension questions. I have uploaded a video of me reading the chapter in Teams so that you can choose to listen to me read it or just read it yourself from your copy. Don't forget to refer back to the text to help you answer the questions (in complete sentences!)

Chapter Seven

How has war affected Herr Roller?
How do we know that Lieutenant Kotler is an important man?
How does Kotler’s usual uniform differ from the prisoners’ uniform?
What evidence is there that Gretel is trying to impress Kotler?
Write down what Gretel might be thinking and feelings as she listens to Kotler admonish Pavel.
Write 5 adjectives to describe Pavel.
What does Pavel mean when he says he feels as though he’s always lived at Out-With?
Why do you think Bruno is surprised to learn that Pavel is a doctor?
Why does Mother say they should tell Father that she cleaned Bruno up after his fall?
