Global Citizenship Programme

13 Sep 2019

A Global Citizenship Programme enables Yr 6 pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and values needed for securing a just and sustainable world in which all can play a role. It gives the children the opportunity to develop critical thinking about complex global issues in the safe space of the classroom.

The main themes we cover in our progamme are:

What is a Global Citizen?

We Are Citizens of the World and We Have Rights!

Global Citizens Take Responsibility

Global Change Begins With Me

We also discuss democracy and values. The children will meet with the local councillor and visit the Council Chambers. We hope to  be able to visit the Houses of Parliament.

We follow national events and hold our own very successful 'general elections.'

Our Global Citizenship programme in Year 6 is the completion of all the work that all the children do on a very regular basis regarding our school driver: Our Place in Our World.

We are linked with a school in Ethiopia where we sponsor town girls to provide them with the equipment that they need to go school. We get haly yearly updates which are always exciting to receive.

Diversity and Human rights are an integral part of work in school. We hold an annual Black History Week - in 2020 we all studied modern day black role models.

We are very pleased that we were awarded the British Council International School Award in June 2016.
