Global Citizenship Programme
13 Sep 2019
Global Citizenship enables our Yr 5 and Yr 6 pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and values needed for securing a just and sustainable world in which all can play a role. It gives the children the opportunity to develop critical thinking about complex global issues in the safe space of the classroom.
The main themes we cover in our progamme are:
What is a Global Citizen?
We Are Citizens of the World and We Have Rights!
Global Citizens Take Responsibility
Global Change Begins With Me
We also discuss democracy and values. The children will meet with the local councillor and visit the Council Chambers. We hope to be able to visit the Houses of Parliament.
Last May we held our own very successful 'general election.'
Our Global Citizenship programme is on top of all the work that all the children do on a very regular basis regarding our school driver: Our Place in Our World.
Link Ethiopia Our work the BCI Academy enables the children to understand a little more about a real school in a very different global community.
PenPal Programme
Children in Yr5/6 are currently working on a pen pal project called 'Walking to Freedom'. They have a lesson each week and then share ideas with their pen pals. The project is based around discrimination and equal rights.

We are very pleased that we were awarded the British Council International School Award in June 2016.
