Welcome to Phoenix class!
Homework
16th May 2022 - due Monday 6th June 2022
This week, the chidlren are being asked to create a PLC based around our history theme - World War Two. I would like them to focus on a particular area of interest and be creative. They may want to create a shoe box scene, write an information report, design a poster or something else creative - the choice is theirs. I am really looking forward to seeing what they produce.
3rd May 2022
As we have SATs next week, I would like you to log on to SATs Companion over the next week to carry out some of the practise activities. Try and make sure you complete a variety of GPS, reading and maths activities throughout the week. This is one of the best ways for you to prepare for next week as the activities you access through the practise section will be tailored to what you need to work on.

Day 1 at Kingswood
14 Mar 2022
Phoenix have enjoyed the start of their residential in Penistone and have fully thrown themselves in to Problem Solving this afternoon - this started with them having to make their own beds
After plenty of helpings at tea time the children devised their own group charters of things they want to achieve, rules they need to follow and fears they may need to overcome. This is something they will refer back to as the week progresses.
This evening they have fully embraced the campfire and enjoyed singing songs, telling jokes and sharing riddles.
Now let's hope they sleep well so that the are recharged for a full day of activities tomorrow!
Day 2 at Kingswood
15 Mar 2022
Our first full day at Kingswood has been full of excitement and challenges. The children started the day with a hearty breakfast - just what was needed to fuel the children for the day! After breakfast, we then headed off for our morning activities of laser tag and orienteering. It was great seeing the children using their map reading skills to complete challenges and working together to protect their teams in laser.
Following a refuel of jacket potatoes, sausage rolls, chips, sandwiches and soup (as well as a lovely salad bar) the children were then ready for the challenges of the afternoon - Balance Beam and Jacob's Ladder. It was amazing to see them all supporting each other to fight their fears and push themselves a bit further out of their comfort zones.
The children are looking forward to an evening of Scrapheap Challenge after a very filling tea of chilli, southern fried chicken, rice and chips (as well as the salad bar) and then, hopefully, a good night sleep, ready for tomorrow.
Day 3 at Kingswood
16 Mar 2022
Our second full day at Peak Venture has been full of adventure, despite the horrible weather and getting very, very wet! The day started with a big breakfast where the children made sure they filled up for the busy morning of activities. The morning started with 3G swing and climbing and the children worked hard to push past their fears and challenge themselves. Mr Bassitt and I were really proud of all of them (and we were all impressed when Mr Bassitt also tried out the 3G swing!)
Once the children had refuelled with a lunch of pasta, soup, tacos and salad they were off to try out bouldering and archery. Thankfully bouldering was inside but we did get wet during archery - although the children powered through and still gave it their all.
Following tea the children played hot spots (a giant game of Twister) and throughly enjoyed playing together and having lots of fun. We are just hoping for another quiet night of sleep so that the children can really enjoy their final full day at Peak Venture!
Day 4 at Kingswood (our final full day)
17 Mar 2022
Our Thursday started with the usual big breakfast where the children filled up on cereal, toast, fruit and cooked breakfast in preparation for a morning of nightline (where the children found out how wet and muddy it gets in the woods at Peak Venture) and buggy building. They all needed to ensure they used teamwork, communication and listening skills or they would struggle with both activities.
After a lunch of jacket potatoes, soup, sandwiches and salad it was full steam ahead for the Leap of Faith and High All Aboard. The children all enjoyed these final high rope activities and even if they didn't all make it to the top, they all pushed themselves to go a little higher than they were comfortable with.
Our final evening meal was well-received by the children and they ensured they refilled their energy supplies with pie or sausages, yorshire pudding, mashed potato and cauliflower. They are all looking forward to taking part in the quiz tonight (the field is still far too muddy for mini-olympics). An extra excitement of the day was a Killinghall birthday to celebrate with yummy chocolate cake.
The children have had a fantastic time and each one has achieved more than they originally thought they were capable of. Despite the fab time they have had, each of them will be pleased to get back tomorrow to their home comforts.
