Computing
At Killinghall CE Primary School, we use ilearn2.co.uk to deliver our exciting computing curriculum. Ilearn2 is a web- based scheme that provides learning packs for all year groups. The packs include activities for a variety of software across multiple platforms, providing pupils with a wide range of skills. Video tutorials allow children to work at their own pace and there are challenge cards which can stretch more able children. There are opportunities in each unit for cross-curricular links. The units can be used on both the school laptops and iPads. The scheme provides a clear progression of skills, which maps out the teaching progression of computing from Reception to year 6, ensuring full curriculum coverage. There are assessment activities in each learning pack which provide opportunities for teachers to assess each child’s progress.
Despite computing not being explicitly mentioned within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework, which focuses on the learning and development of children from birth to age five, we aim to provide many opportunities for young children to use technology to solve problems and produce creative outcomes.
Esafety is covered as a specific unit within the ilearn progression, however this important area of safety for our pupils is reinforced at the start of all lessons involving the use of laptops and ipads. The messages are constant and consistent across the whole year in all curriculum areas. Special esafety days are also held and our Pupil Digital Leaders reinforce messages in worship sessions. Children also take part in esafety days and weeks, along with having specific workshops led by Tim Pinto https://www.esafetyoffice.co.uk/
