History
The primary aim of History at Killinghall C of E Primary School is to help children to develop their understanding of the historical events, figures and processes that shape the way we live our lives today. We aim to provide children with a solid knowledge and understanding of the past of Britain and the wider world, and the historical enquiry skills to use this knowledge to make links to everyday life and develop new knowledge about the world at present. We aim to inspire curiosity in the children to learn about the history of their own families and localities, in order to help them develop a sense of identity as a citizen of their community. Growing up in the 21st century, it is important that we also provide children with the essential cultural capital of an appreciation and understanding of the diversity of societies and the relationships between key groups. Meaningful linked to British Values are intertwined throughout our history teaching and children are encouraged to learn from the successes and mistakes of those in the past.
