Our School Day

Our day begins at 8:45am, with children lining up by the classroom door in the playground, ready to be greeted by Miss Ramsey.

Once inside, they’ll settle into a short task like spellings, times tables, grammar, or reading. Mornings focus on core subjects—English, maths, and reading—along with time for collective worship.

In the afternoon, we explore a range of wider curriculum subjects, and as the day draws to a close, we gather for a story and some quiet reflection on what we’ve learned. The school day wraps up at 3:30pm.

What an incredible autumn term we’ve had in Year 3! As the days grew shorter, our classroom buzzed with energy, curiosity, and growth. It has been a term filled with exciting challenges and achievements that have made me so proud of this fantastic group of children. In English, the children tackled a variety of writing styles. They created thoughtful acrostic poems, imaginative diary entries inspired by Fantastic Mr. Fox, fact files about Queen Victoria, and vivid descriptive texts about Scrooge. Their creativity and effort have been superb, and we’ve seen fantastic improvements in both handwriting and their ability to work independently. In Maths, we explored key concepts such as place value, addition and subtraction, and started building on multiplication and division. Science has been all about understanding nutrition, the food groups, and learning about skeletons in both humans and animals. The highlight of the term was our Victorian Day, where the children dressed up and brought their History lessons to life. We explored what made Victorian Harrogate special and why people visited during that era. It was a hands-on experience that made their learning truly memorable. Beyond the classroom, the children have also enjoyed gardening sessions, getting their hands dirty while learning about nature. We also practiced for and took part in the KS2 Christingle, a special and reflective moment to end our term on a festive note. One of the things that has stood out this term is how much the children have grown, not just academically, but as learners. Their maturity, independence, and ability to work collaboratively as a team have truly blossomed, and it’s been a privilege to watch them thrive. Looking ahead to the spring term, we have so much to be excited about! There are plenty of opportunities for the children to expand their learning both inside and outside the classroom, and I can’t wait to see them continue to flourish.
