Admissions
ADMISSIONS TO KILLINGHALL CE PRIMARY SCHOOL
Our school catchment includes the village of Killinghall, and part of the neighbouring village and their outlying farms. Some of our families also choose to send their children to us from areas beyond the catchment.
Children commence school at the beginning of the Autumn term in the year in which they are five years of age. Parents should apply for a school place to the North Yorkshire Local Authority (LA) in the January of that year. Our annual pupil admission number, set by the LA, is 30 pupils. Children in the school’s catchment area whose parents express a preference for our school, will be allocated the available places before children who express a preference from out of the area normally served by us.
During the term prior to admission, several transition sessions are allocated to support children in starting our school. These dates are sent out to parents in good time in order for arrangements to be made. Wherever possible, young children are welcome to attend school functions with their parents, as another introduction to school life.
As a gradual introduction process, the new entrants into the Reception year attend school for half days only for the first week of term. During this period of time they will return home before lunch.
The Local Authority coordinates admissions to our school. Parents should apply online at https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/education-and-learning/school-admissions

We hold an annual Open Day in October but feel free to call the office to arrange a date to come and visit our school.
Transition Arrangements
YEAR 6 TRANSITION TO SECONDARY SCHOOL
We work hard to ensure that our Year 6 leavers have a successful transtion to their High Schools. We work alongside secondary colleagues and other local primary schools to ensure that our pupils are well prepared for their 'move up'. We have a full programme of transition activites planned that ensure children are prepared mentally and accademically for the next step on their learning journey. Year 6 children have a special Leavers' Service to which parents are invited.
