Stand Up, Speak Out
On 7th February, we invited our families and gathered at Harrogate Theatre for a powerful and thought-provoking concert, where children took the stage to speak out on important global issues.
Our headteacher said, “Tonight is about more than music, more than words—it is about empowering our children to stand up and make a difference,” she said. “I hope that as you listen, you take in the depth of their voices, their concerns and their hopes for a better world.”
Part of our vision at Killinghall CE Primary is children striving for a better future and children sharing their voices to make a positive difference in the world. We felt that giving children a platform to express their concerns about the world they are inheriting is imperative part of the curriculum. From climate change and social justice to fast fashion and health, each performance carried an important message that resonated with the audience.
Throughout the evening, parents watched in admiration as their children used song, spoken word, dance and film to highlight critical issues. Many left feeling inspired, with a renewed sense of responsibility to support the voices of the next generation.
The performance included a heartfelt speech from Thomas, Year 4, who spoke out about the work of Yorkshire Cancer Research and the support they provide for his Mum.
The performance ended with our Leading Lights (pupil leadership group) writing their own words of thanks to all those involved and inviting everyone to share our school prayer.
